The flavor forecast for 2017 is shaping up to be all about seeking healthy and clean, oldies but goodies, and exploring a bit of the exotic. Tumeric, coconut, and spice top the beverage flavor list. The nation’s top beverage development company, Flavorman, and their team of flavor experts predict the top beverage flavor trends we can expect to see more of in 2017.

1. Tumeric ( The “New” Ginger)


Tumeric takes first on the list of top beverage flavor trends for 2017. Tumeric brings to the beverage its distinctive flavor, mildly aromatic with a sense of orange and ginger and health benefits. This herb and kitchen staple is the top trending flavor for 2017.

The age-old spice Tumeric is known for its warm, sharp taste and golden color. Its powerful health benefits range from reducing cholesterol to controlling diabetes. Known as the “new” ginger, it is loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Tumeric is usually found in teas. such as cold and flu fighting apple green tea and cleansing smoothies like carrot, beet, and turmeric.

2. Coconut – Tree of Life


Coconut is known for its distinct tropical flavor. This exquisite flavor has a subtle sweetness with undertones of butterscotch and caramel. Taking the second spot on the Top Beverage Flavor Trends list, it provides a nutritious source of meat, juice, milk and oil. Coconut is known for its healing properties for treating asthma, kidney stones, and tumors.

3. Some Like It Hot 

Spicy flavors are turning products up a notch, and taking the third spot on the Top Beverage Flavor Trends. Hot and spicy flavors have risen in popularity in beverages over recent years due in part to the ongoing interest and exploration of ethnic cuisines across the United States. Major distillers are creating specific line extensions to add spice to their already existing products such as spicy versions of rum, bourbon, and whiskey.

Runners Up

Herbal accent flavors make traditional flavors more interesting and unique. Coffee in non-coffee beverages such as cream liquors, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Right now, chili and chocolate are popular in coffee, combining two trends on the list.

The top flavors of 2016 were ginger, orange, and lime. In fact, these beverage flavors are regulars. Orange is #1 or #2 almost every year. In an unusual case this year, Tumeric is part of the ginger family and trading places for the number one spot.
